In our growth group during the week, we have been working through the book of Roman’s as have some of the other groups. We were looking at Chapter 8 – one of those well liked chapters of the bible. Paul says in verse 18:
“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
This verse is really all about perspective. Our life here on earth is but a drop in the ocean compared to eternity. However hard life may be, and certainly I know that many of you have had more than your fair share of sufferings, as Christians we have something greater to look forward to. Its a bit like riding up a hill. It is hard work; your legs hurt and you’re expending heaps of energy, but you know that once over the crest, there is rest, there is time to catch your breath and there is the exhilaration of riding down again at 60-70 km/hr.
Suffering and glory go together. As Jesus suffered and was then glorified, Paul tells is that as children of God, our lives too will follow that pattern. Life now will be marked by suffering, but when this world is made new, when Jesus comes back to judge the living and the dead, glory will come to those who trust in Jesus. Sadly suffering will not stop for those who ignore Jesus.
Who do you trust? Who do your loved ones trust? Will you pass on this message?
